"I don't remember saying that, but yeah, I'm sure we do." Lucan quirked a brow at the sleepy monkey's reply but said nothing, as Arthur stretched behind him.

"He was referring to me," the Dragonite supplied softly as he gently worked out a kink in his wing. But it seemed that Flame wasn't paying attention, instead opting to wake his slumbering trainer.

Lucan took the cue to leave, not wanting to interrupt any more than he already head. "Time to go already?" Sara-Anne asked sleepily. The two spoke a little more as the human slowly woke from her coma and Galahad couldn't help but look to his own human. How were they going to transport Lance? It seemed Arthur's mind had been occupied with the same dilemma; he put a gentle hand on the Charizard's shoulder as he drew near, his attention on the sleeping Champion.

"We can't move him like we did when we brought him here," he began in a low voice as the others moved to pack their belongings. "It risks too much to undo what little healing we've managed to do."

Galahad looked Lance over with a pained eye as a thought occurred to him. "What if we just... carry him in the chair?" He turned to see Arthur's unconvinced expression and Galahad went to put pressure on the chair's arm. "It's sturdy enough... we could have Tyrantrum carry it while we walk. He's big enough to do that."

Arthur seemed to consider the idea for a moment before testing a small part of the chair himself. "...You think his arms are long enough to hold onto it?" Galahad snorted at the visual, but then realized that his idea likely wouldn't pan out.

    "No..."

"We should still probably take the chair, though. It's the best place to keep him while he's recovering..." Arthur sighed as his mind settled on having to chance moving Lance the same way they'd managed yesterday. He turned to Mattimeo and Joy and cleared his throat. "We're going to need some help..."

It took some time, but with a joined effort, they managed to get a still sleeping/ unconscious (who knew at this point) Lance outside and onto a newly rested Dinadan. Arthur sat behind his trainer, keeping him stable and strapped into the saddle while Galahad plopped the chair upside down onto the Tyrantrum's hips. Hopefully, it would stay. Arthur looked around the group one last time and asked, "Are we ready to go? Anything else we need to grab?"

Galahad's mind went to the little azure glass Dragonair, his head turning to look at the empty house one last time. A part of him screamed to grab it while he could, but he remained stationary. He looked back to Arthur and shook his head. "Don't think so."

It doesn't take long for everyone to pack everything up. Really, the hardest part is figuring out how they'll transport Lance, and then actually setting that up. But within the hour, Lance is in place and it's time to get moving. Sara-Anne keeps glancing at Lance, her face pinched with worry. He doesn't look much better than last night...

Their attention is called away by Arthur, whose eyes give the group one last look-over before posing a question. "Are we ready to go? Anything else we need to grab?"

Flame, perched on Sara-Anne's shoulder, considers this.

The room of glass figurines comes to mind; the images of glass roses and that little dragonair...

But while waffling back and forth on what to do, Galahad makes the decision for him. "Don't think so."

"Yeah, we're good," the chimp says, feeling his stomach sink even as he locks himself into the decision with his words. Sara-Anne's head turns, her hair brushing against his face, but she says nothing to him.

"Like I said, it should be just a straight shot, so unless there's survivors or undead around, we should be fine. No chance of getting lost, and we'll definitely get there before nightfall. Which is good because this ash is a pain." God, does she wish she had an umbrella! But... be that as it may, she doesn't. Hmm, maybe her hoodie...?

As they start to move forward she digs her hoodie from her backpack and pulls it on, pulling the hood up and then slinging her backpack back on. Arlene coos and flaps her wings, allowing for her human to climb on before taking off into the skies. She doesn't fly far ahead, staying low so as to allow for easy communication between the party.

Party. Hah. Like an RPG game. Looks like Mr. RPG man is reminding me of all my nerd pastimes. It's doubtful Fallarbor will have electricity, but if it does, maybe she can charge her game system... the cartridges are fine, but the system is dead.

Wistfully she recalls her television game systems back at home, and her stomach knots. I wonder if they're even still okay...

Sure, they're things and not people, but they were a comfort when fellow humans couldn't care less, and she always believed in taking good care of one's expensive things. No one would steal them--they're useless in a fucking apocalypse--but if the house caught fire or sustained water damage or was just plain smashed through...

Maybe I should make an effort to return home someday... She hasn't seen the house since before they left Sinnoh; if they ever find a safe place to settle, maybe she could return to recover a few personal items...

It's a shame how in times of crisis, the things that have sentimental value have to be treated as less for the sake of survival...

"Yeah, we're good," Flame agreed, settling the small knot in Galahad's stomach. There was no need to go back for something so whimsical and practically useless... It was fragile and would probably break on the way to Fallarbor or back home. Nothing delicate ever survived in this world. Not without something to sacrifice for its safety. So he was better off not grabbing it. If Lance wasn't disappointed or saddened when he gave the trinket to him, he would have been when it inevitably smashed to pieces.

Leaving it in the house was the right decision...

    Yeah...

    ...the right decision...

"Like I said, it should be just a straight shot, so unless there's survivors or undead around, we should be fine. No chance of getting lost, and we'll definitely get there before nightfall. Which is good because this ash is a pain." Arthur gave a small nod as he shifted on Dinadan, casting a worried glance down to their sleeping trainer.

Galahad watched as she pulled out a hooded light jacket and boarded her Altaria, Flame in tow. The Charizard couldn't help but watch the trio fly off with a sad expression, the decision to leave the small little figure behind still on his mind. They hadn't been able to do much for the Dragonair twins or his Aerodactyl teammate other than make sure they couldn't come back as monsters. No proper burial, no funeral... not even a real time to mourn. Right after that, Lance dug his heels into Indigo Plateau and refused to move. As the heavy sounds of Dinadan's footfalls sounded in front of him, Galahad looked once more to the house.

Leaving the tiny, innocent trinket was like leaving their bodies behind all over again...

The thought was a stab in the heart and immediately, he turned back to face the path before him, ducking his head to hide his shame. Silently, he followed Dinadan's giant form, hoping to keep the little sparkling Dragonair and the shadows of the brothers it represented out of his mind.

The FALLARBOR Team (PLOT) - Page 4 XfD8XX

    Fallarbor Town | Dawn
    {1}

When Chris awakens, his eyes blink several times, as if trying to figure out if this is actually the waking world or just another one of his vivid dreams. His throat feels as if sandpaper has been dragged across it, and he's drenched in sweat. Oh...he had forgotten to take off his flannel when he'd gone to bed last night. That makes sense. Chris pulls the unbuttoned over-shirt off, leaving it lying on the bed as he gets up, stretching out his sore muscles. A sharp pain in his right knee continues to plague him, still holding on even after several days have already passed since it sprang into existence. Chris frowns, rubbing one hand against the hurting spot, but it doesn't really help. Figures. He takes a few minutes to find a different outfit and his communicator, his exhausted brain slowly waking up again in the process; satisfied that he is ready to face another day, Chris leaves the house he has turned into his own refuge. If his memory served right, it'd once belonged to some sort of move deleter, but now it is the closest thing to 'home' that he has. Nimbasa City is far away, his mind's images of it already blurry, as if the place had belonged in a dream or in another person's memories a lifetime ago. No matter how hard Chris tries to grasp onto the images and wrench them away from the gray fuzz, the little details always slip from his grasp. Though it breaks his heart to admit it, the only thing that matters is Fallarbor, the here and now. Thoughts of his old home would only get in the way during the day, and he needs to focus.

Outside, Stannis is awaiting him, the Sawsbuck as alert and watchful as ever. There is nobody Chris can rely on more than his starter; without the Grass-type's guidance, the man doubts he would have ever made it this far. Most people would think that the human trainer would be the calm and collected one, the one always in charge, but that wasn't always the case with Chris. Most of the time, he was the one relying on his Pokemon rather than the other way around; sometimes this picked at him, made him think he was weak, but Chris would take a little insecurity over being dead any day.
”Good morning, Chris,” Stannis greets him, giving a small bow in his trainer's direction and bringing a smile to the man's face. Stepping closer to his Pokemon, Chris scratched him behind the ears, the Sawsbuck's coat velvety to the touch.
”'Morning, Stannis. You seen the others anywhere?” Chris expected more of his Pokemon to have gathered around upon seeing he was awake, but it seems most of them aren't around. The only ones in his sight are Stannis and Astora; it looks as if the female Manectric is the one on patrol duty, checking the southern fence, unsurprisingly. It isn't something to worry about-not like this is the first time, after all-but he likes to keep track of where they all are, just in case.
”I've already sent Cassandra out past the crops, and Atlas is out by the old fossil house,” Stannis responds, looking over to the west; it was usually the Vaporeon who was out near the water, as they'd long since insured the safety of that area, and Atlas made sure to never leave the boundaries of the fence if necessary. They always kept at least one pair of eyes to the east and the west, as to prevent anything from surprising them...though something like that has yet to happen. Sure, there is always the stray undead here and there, but they didn't seem particularly fond of Fallarbor's climate. Survivors are practically nonexistent out here, as well, which isn't shocking either. ”Din insisted on guarding the Contest Hall, and I didn't dare try to dissuade her.” Stannis gives a chuckle at that, and Chris imagines the tiny Larvesta perched on a stack of boxes, waiting for someone to break in so she can charge at them. What a nerd.

Chris runs a hand through his hair, observing the town around him. They've done a good job with the place, there's no doubt about that, but...really, how long could they keep it up? A year? Two? He's run through these same doubts a thousand times over, yet still they hang onto the edges of his mind, waiting for the perfect times to sink their teeth in. Standing here isn't going to magically erase his problems, and Chris knows it all too well. Better to distract himself with the everyday work of caring for Fallarbor rather than sink deeper into another negative thought cycle. The crops need to be checked on, the fence needs inspection, he has to check through their storage, the grain needs to be sorted, there's no shortage of tasks he can use to clear up his bogged down mind.
”Well, I'd better check on the crops,” Chris finally says, not wanting to waste anymore daylight. He would have to check on the outer fences as well, to make sure there wasn't any damage or breaks, and that was going to take quite some time. ”Check on the fence in town for me? I'm taking Astora along.” Stannis nods, and Chris whistles to catch the Manectric's attention. She's welcome company on the walk to the east, where the bulk of their crops grow, hardy plants made to last in the ash-ridden, volcanic land that is Fallarbor. Chris feels right at home in the cooler morning air; he'd chosen another flannel to wear, of course, this one being slightly thicker than the others with a blue-green checkered pattern. He'd probably have to take it off later, but for now, Chris revels in the comfort, tugging at the sleeves so that they don't cover his hands.

”How're you holdin' up, kid?” Astora asks, breaking the silence hanging over them. The Manectric is the oldest of his team, though one of the last to be caught; even as a wild Pokemon, there'd been a calmness to her, a maternal sort. Honestly, she and Stannis are the mom and dad of the group, keeping the rest of them in line. Astora is definitely the more fiery of the two, almost more like a whiskey-loving aunt, and between the two of them Chris cannot think of a problem that cannot be solved.
”I'm doing fine.” Chris knows that's a lie; he's the furthest thing from fine, and the both of them know it. He tries not to twitch too much under Astora's gaze; the Manectric looks like she's trying to see through his words, to find out how he really feels. Maybe she already knows. Hell, Chris wouldn't be surprised if all of his Pokemon knew exactly what he felt and thought, he was never a subtle person. Even little Din was rather good at guessing what he was about to say, not that the thought cheers him up. Chris is fully aware of how pointless it is to try and hide things about himself, especially from his most trusted partners, but he does it anyways. Why can't he be rational for once?
”I don't believe ya for a second.” Her response is blunt, but she isn't wrong, and their short talk is left at that. Chris looks forward, as if still completely intent on his job, but his mind is distracted now. There's something about today that feels different, as if something is waiting for them. But what in the world could it be? Nothing big ever changes around Fallarbor; he's probably just being paranoid.

Yes, that's what it's got to be. Simply paranoia. Chris shoves the thoughts into a dark cabinet in the back of his mind, where it could stay for the rest of the day. He has a job to do.

    {OoC: Just for clarification, Chris' Skarmory (Cassandra) is the one keeping watch at the farthest end of eastern Fallarbor (Route 113), so she's the one closest to the others at the moment. Let me know if anything needs changing.}

Route 114 (North End) | Dawn
    12 - Both
    (Post count continued from Realgam)

It had been a long and arduous journey from their last encounter with the living, and the request of their fellows to journey north had thus far met with nothing but resistance. Hordes of undead were one thing, but when the only pathway to the north was blocked off and a mountain stands in your way? Well that is whole new level of special.

Kaeli had been confident in their ability to scale the tall peaks to their destination on the other side which gave Alistair a boost in his own. For the most part they did very well thanks to their feline forms being able to maneuver in ways that others would not have, though they did have quite a few close calls on the way up. Once they made it over the crest of the mountains the Luxray was sure it would be much easier getting down.

    He was wrong.

Somewhere near the last quarter of their treacherous path Kaeli found herself on a loose foothold, the rock giving way under her weight and sending her sliding down the slope of the mountain only stopping when she finally met a solid surface. Alistair panicked as his mate cried out in fear and in pain, bouncing off of the rock that slowed her fall and over it, to meet nothing but empty air on the other side.

The cliff was steep, with no way for the Rahneko to try and reach back to grab on to anything to stop or even slow her descent. She dropped straight down like a stone, paws grasping at air desperately as her mate leapt down sharp rocks to try and catch up to her. Kaeli hit with a hard smack, expecting to feel the shock of bones and body breaking but instead felt the sharp stinging of breaking water.

She had hit the small patch of lake resting beneath the mountain. Just a few feet in either direction...

But she was not safe yet. The sudden and forceful stop pushed all of the air from her lungs, her nerves on fire from the stinging impact as she froze momentarily. Alistair called out to her as she began to sink, still several dozen feet above her trying to find a way down. When he saw her head starting to slip underwater the blue cat gave up and jumped from his precarious position into the cold water below, coming back to surface just beside his mate and using his larger frame to raise her back up over the surface of the water.

Carefully he paddled them to shore, pulling Kaeli by her scruff with him as he retreated from the water. Neither of them were safe so exposed yet were even less so trapped in a lake. At least on land he could defend his love. The Rahneko at his side gasped desperately as her body finally recovered from the shock of her fall. She sputtered and groaned as Alistair tried to comfort her, knowing for sure that she had at the very least cracked some ribs when each breath felt like liquid fire roaring through her chest.

"We- We have- to get-" Kaeli was panting as she tried to speak to her mate, each breath, each word a searing pain until she could no longer even try. Her larger mate nuzzled her gently until he heard her hiss sharply, instantly guilty that he had caused her any additional pain. His face was a mix of worry and guilt as he racked his brain to come up with a solution to their new predicament.

"I have to get you somewhere safe," he warned, knowing full well he would have to carry her. She nodded, barely, but didn't move any further than that. Every nerve in her body felt like it had been lit up from her crash into the water and she still wasn't sure how much of it was nerves and how much of it was actual damage. She wouldn't know until the shock and swelling fully receded, but they didn't have that long to wait. "Just- do- it-" she wheezed, cringing slightly as she prepared herself for the inevitable.

    Route 113 | Dawn | 40

Too bad this route is all ashes...

It would be nice if the scenery were more green.  Sara-Anne calls to mind the many routes they'd travelled so far.  Hoenn truly was a beautiful region, full of lush, tropical plant life and gorgeous beaches.  Damn, she really should have suggested they all come here sometime; they could have played on one of those beaches for hours, or gone looking for bug Pokemon.  Played with the local wild Pokemon, if they didn't feel like biting anyone.  Oh, and treehouses!  Maybe they could have built one!  Or at least climbed trees.  And flower picking-- they could have enjoyed that, too...

Maybe someday when all of this ends.  Maybe if her family is still alive then.  Maybe, maybe, maybe...

At lest her Pokemon family will still be alive.  Her heart swells with determination.  She won't let them die, not after all this time.

Now she just has to keep her promise.  That's the terrifying part.

"Mmmm." Flame nuzzles her face, driving the anxious thoughts from her mind.  Good boy.  He always knows, somehow.  She scratches his head.  Arlene coos.

Won't be long now.  Defnitely before nightfall.

    Route 113 | Late Afternoon

The day draws later.  Morning ends and afternoon passes by.

She's spent some time walking and is back on Arlene again.  Joy and Mattimeo are quietly talking.  Flame has been eerily silent the whole trip, though now is not the time to ask what's on his mind.  Too many people.

Wait what's that?  She tugs on Arlene's cotton, drawing the dragon to a halt.

The sun just... glinted off of something in the sky.

"Skarmory," she guesses quietly.  It's the only flying metal anything she remembers.  Now what?  Call out to them and hope they're not undead?  Or aggressive?

The walk had been a long one. Galahad had remained in the back of the group, idly watching the monotonous scenery as they trekked. He made no real effort to converse with the others; Arthur and Dinadan apparently made the same subconscious decision. All three dragons stayed strangely silent as their unconscious trainer slept. Galahad wasn't really used to walking for so long though; Lance used him mostly for flying and his feet ached with each new step. Damn. He hoped they reached the town soon...

The Charizard lightly bumped his head into Dinadan's tail, his mind elsewhere and not on the dragon in front of him. Surprised, he looked up to see the giant dragon stopped and looking upward, his stance wary. Galahad followed his gaze with his own and spotted something shining in the sky. What... that couldn't possibly be a plane. A Skarmory? Some other flying steel pokemon?

He flapped his wings hard and rose to be level with Sara-Anne and her Altaria. "What do we do?" he asked in a hushed whisper. "I think I can hit it from here if it turns aggressive..."

The FALLARBOR Team (PLOT) - Page 4 XfD8XX

    Fallarbor Town | Late Afternoon
    {2}

The morning has long since drifted along into the afternoon, and all was quiet alongside Fallarbor and Route 113. Cassandra had not expected to run into a single living soul throughout her watch, and in her mind, she was right to be so pessimistic. In all the time they've spent in this town, not a single survivor has come their way, and why would they? Fallarbor had been small and obscure even before everything had went to shit, and that wasn't even taking into account its proximity to a live volcano. The Skarmory sighs, thinking back to the promise her trainer had made to the legend Azelf years ago. As little as she believed in their chances, Cassandra knows that promise gave Chris hope, and she's not about to be the one to crush it out of him. Their town is a haven, so what was the harm in him having a little optimism, even if Cass herself doesn't agree with it? He has family out there somewhere, friends, and so Cassandra always keeps a careful eye during her watch.

As she flies, keeping a steady pace, Cassandra is expecting another lifeless day, with maybe a stray undead Trapinch she could easily pick off with no fuss involved. But what she does find is...unexpected, to say the least. Off in the distance, the Skarmory can see another Pokemon, its colours reminding her of an Altaria. Cassandra isn't incredibly familiar with the species, but she can vaguely recall something about how Swablu were once fairly common to a place near Fallarbor. The species isn't important, though, not compared to the fact that it doesn't have any of the common undead traits, and it's obviously seen her. The other Pokemon isn't moving towards her, and undead don't just stop like that. A survivor, huh...? After all this time...but the Altaria isn't alone. They are soon joined by another, and Cassandra held back a handful of curses. She was not excited to see them. The living were trickier to handle than the dead, smarter, oftentimes capable of worse damage than their rotting counterparts. However, that didn't mean she could immediately assume they are a threat.

What should she do, not knowing these strangers' intentions? Fly back to warn Chris, and she'd very well be leading them straight to Fallarbor. Approach, and she's putting herself in a lot of danger, being both outnumbered and likely outgunned. Cassandra was a defense player, not a powerhouse, and if they attack there's a good chance she'd be taken down quickly-but does she really have any other option? They've already seen her, and it doesn't look like they plan on turning around and pretending this never happened. She's going to have to take the risk. Keeping the same steady pace as before, Cassandra begins her approach, closing the distance between her and the unknown Pokemon. If they are friendly, then she can hope that they don't misinterpret her movement as some sign of aggressive. Some creatures could be very twitchy like that.

    ~

On the opposite side of Fallarbor, on Route 114, Atlas is walking next to the fence, his aquatic form still hating the stuffy climate. “Getting used to it” must have been an impossibility, and thus, he was given the job where he could be around water. The Vaporeon never actually complained, except on rare occasions, but his job was so boring. It'd been so long since he'd felt any sort of adrenaline rush, or the thrill of competition. Yes, he knows perfectly well that not having to fight to survive every day is a good thing-Atlas has gotten plenty of lectures on the subject. ”Atlas, you must be thankful for what we have here.” ”If you hop that fence again, I'm locking you in the fossil house.” It isn't that the Vaporeon is ungrateful, far from it-he likes having a reliable source of food and a soft bed, thank you. Every day just feels like same old, same old, and it doesn't help that most of his friends don't hold the sort of conversations that interest him. With an exaggerated huff, the Vaporeon climbs up to the top of the fence, surveying the landscape. Nothing new that he can see, but that's no surprise.
”Dirt. Lots of dirt. More dirt,” Atlas says to nobody in particular while balancing his paws on the fence itself. It probably would've been easier to find one of the taller posts and sit on it, but eh. This pattern of watching and balancing continues for what feels like hours, but is likely only minutes, before Atlas spots a difference in the landscape. From here, it kinda looks like a weird splotch, but splotches aren't supposed to move. Atlas is pretty sure splotches only move when your vision is going out of whack, but unless he's got heat stroke, that shouldn't be happening. The thing is getting closer, close enough for Atlas to see that...

”Huh. That's not a splotch-Arceus, that's a guy! Atlas nearly falls off the fence before readjusting himself and gawking at the approaching Pokemon. He-She? They?-were still far off, and with some squinting involved, the Vaporeon can barely make out a second shape. So there's two. Two Pokemon heading towards their tucked-away little town. A million questions run through his head-Are they infected? What do they want? Do they know Fallarbor is here or are they just randomly wandering? Why is one being carried? Standing here isn't going to get him answers, though. Assuming these people aren't infected, vicious, or cannibals looking for an easy meal, then Atlas can't just leave them be. Besides, it looks like they're already heading for the town anyways, and if anything goes wrong, he can run back quick as a whip and warn Stannis. Considering the other Pokemon is carrying someone, Atlas is sure to have the advantage of unburdened speed, so there's nothing to worry about. He's got this. The only concern Atlas has is that he's leaving the fence, something he's technically not supposed to do, but the thought is quickly tossed aside. He can't let such a silly rule get in the way of his inherently helpful nature. And besides...he's never, ever seen anyone else use this since they resettled the town, before today at least. How can he pass up the opportunity?
”Astora's gonna kill me, though,” Atlas mutters before throwing caution to the wind and hopping off the fence.

    {lemme know if I should change anything, Phoe owo}

It had been quite a struggle getting Kaeli onto his back with as little pain as possible. Every tug had been a hot knife across her nerves leaving her a whimpering mess by the time he finally got her perched on his back. Her limbs draped off of his sides pathetically as Alistair began to walk, the limp appendages swinging in time with his steps as their owner buried her face in her mate's large mane. Alistair wished that they could just curl up somewhere together and not move, his overwhelming concern for his beloved making him more nervous with each passing minute. She was the stronger out of the two of them, he looked up to her, and right now she needed him and he couldn't do anything for her. It drove him mad with guilt.

Kaeli could sense her mate's tension by the way his shoulder blades began to pinch together as he walked and how his head kept dipping lower and lower until she lost its pillowy support. She tried offering soft whispers of support and encouragement but they soon became to painful to continue so the Rahneko had to settle for affectionate licks to his neck and the occasional bump of her tail on his as it swayed. It did little to assuage his ever growing cloud of despair, but she had to try.

The walk was slow, incredibly slow, as the Luxray did his best to keep from jostling his mate, so a distance that should have taken a mere fifteen minutes became near an hour as they finally breached the edge of the sparse wood. Alistair looked out at their surroundings and noted how dusty everything seemed despite the roaring waterfall to their west. The volcano and the river were in ever present war over the region, each trying to claim the land as their bounty, and it was easy to spot the border of their combat.

He looked around before attempting to leave the safety of the treeline, wanting to make sure he had a destination before setting off. A small house in the distance caught his eye and while he wished there were more places of shelter between here and there the recovery of his mate was of too great importance to not risk the chance. Making up his mind Alistair set off, slowly but surely, and vowed to make it to the little shelter come hell or high water.

As the duo approached Alistairs keen vision spotted something perched on a fence line near their destination, hoping against reality that it was going to be some random leave behind of whatever human had previously occupied it. But luck had never been Alistair's friend and the figure on the fence began to move, eventually leaping off of its elevated stand and began walking towards them. Kaeli tensed on his back as she felt her mate stop suddenly, a low growl building in his chest and making his back vibrate. She lifted her head gently from his neck and tried to peer over his mane to see what might have set him off.

    Was that...A Vaporeon?

No sooner does she stop to observe it than the dragons notice the bird as well, Galahad flying up to speak with her.

"What do we do?"  She turns her head to look at him, swallowing.  "I think I can hit it from here if it turns aggressive..."

Decision time.  As twitchy as she feels, as much as she wants to tell him to just burn it down...

"... We... we try talking to it..."

She can't have him kill it for no reason; she just can't.  That it isn't an undead, which means that it is a he or a she or a they; someone sentient, someone with thoughts and emotions.  And they owe them to try to settle this peacefully.  Maybe if they were fewer in number and in power, she could justify killing the bird, but with two powerful dragons and her own pokemon, no, there's nothing in the world that would justify shooting them out of the sky.

    Not a thing.

She stiffens as they approach--definitely a Skarmory--and grips Arlene's fluff tightly.

"It's okay," she assures her, voice soft and eyes locked on the Skarmory.  "We can do this.  If they attack they're not going to get much done before we squash it.  I'm sure we can talk this through, though."

"... We... we try talking to it..."

Galahad blinked at the girl's bravado and was a bit relieved. Lance likely would have simply tried to avoid the thing; as ruthless as the man could be, his goals were never to harm an outright innocent pokemon. He respected them too much. Still, this was an extremely dangerous situation. He nodded at Sara-Anne's decision and stayed in his spot in the sky, eyeing the steel bird as it approached.

The Altaria seemed to feel her trainer's discomfort and did what she could to alleviate it while also flying. "It's okay," she began gently. "We can do this. If they attack they're not going to get much done before we squash it. I'm sure we can talk this through, though."

"There's no way it's touching either of you," Galahad reassured, the fire slowly building in his throat. "But you're right... we should talk first. It doesn't look about to attack." Legends, he hoped he was right.

Gods, this has to be a bad idea. The strangers don't do or say anything, and Cassandra's anxiety feels like a string waiting to snap. As she gets closer, the Skarmory can see that it's not just Pokemon in their little group-no, that's definitely a human with the Altaria. I'll be damned... Cassandra had never expected another living Pokemon to stumble across their little sanctuary, but a human being? With the exception of Chris, she'd put seeing another human right next to Arceus appearing in their midst. Fallarbor is just so...obscure and out of the way, what would inspire someone to intentionally travel in this direction? Even Chris had only been randomly wandering through the region, as much as he tried to phrase it otherwise. Is that what these people were doing-randomly traveling in the hopes of finding a safe place? Cassandra could have scoffed at such a naive notion, but instead focused on pushing down the nervous feeling that was beginning to build up. Looks like it's up to her to be the first to actually...well, act, because she doubts they're going to do so in her stead.

”I'm not looking for a fight,” she calls out; non-hostility seems like a good place to start, but these people don't really have a reason to believe her. If things went south, then at this proximity, the odds aren't exactly stacked in her favor. Cassandra has no intention of testing whether this unknown woman would actually have her Pokemon attack or not. ”Can I ask what you're doing here? Or who you are?” Maybe she was a bit too...forward with that, but it can't be taken back now. The only thing Cassandra can do is wait to see how these strangers would react.

    ~

Okay. Wow. Big Guy definitely doesn't look too happy to see him. Atlas stops, his paws practically begging to run back towards the town; even with a whole other Pokemon on his back, this complete stranger still looks one-hundred-percent capable of beating him up. Or killing him. Both were possible, and both were outcomes Atlas really doesn't want happening. That meant he had to make a decision. Try to talk to the big cat and hope he wasn't ready to immediately rip the face off of any perceived threat, or make a beeline back to Fallarbor and get Stannis to handle everything. The Sawsbuck is way better than him at diplomacy, that's for sure. Still, didn't leaving a strong-looking Pokemon alone and unwatched count as “a really bad idea?” Plus, it looked like the stranger already had his mind set on getting closer to the town anyways, so if Atlas helped him out, maybe...maybe he'd be grateful. Yeah! Atlas could play the nice host, and even if this new guy really was a troublemaker, he probably wouldn't risk trying anything with an injured partner. It wasn't a foolproof plan, no, but in this very tense moment it was the best thing Atlas could think of doing. There's a reason he's usually not the one left in charge of the plans.

”Don't worry dude, I'm definitely not here to attack you!” Atlas says to the other Pokemon, waving a paw as a sort of white flag substitute. The very last thing he needs is this guy deciding to go on the offense, because if that happens, he's totally screwed. ”I'm Atlas. I can totally get you hooked up in that house over there if you need a place to crash, nobody else is using it.”

As the strange blue fox approached Alistair's growls began to grow more aggressive, his posture dipping and preparing for the worst that could come from the watery menace. He had the type advantage, but with Kaeli on his back anything he did would be hindered and any attack he threw could easily shock her as well. The best thing for both of them was to not get into a fight at all but if this stranger was undead then there would be no easy way out.

Thankfully it seemed like the guy got the hint, stopping a ways away from them and basically staring at them as Alistair tried to figure out what the heck was about to happen. Kaeli could feel the tension in his back as he kept in a ready position and she tried to look over his large mane of hair to see better. The Vaporeon didn't seem threatening. In fact it seemed as though he were more concerned about them then they were of him, which meant he was more likely a living pokemon than a dead one. She was about to whisper to her mate when the blue fox decided to announce himself.

”Don't worry dude, I'm definitely not here to attack you!”

Alistair's aggression vanished in the blink of an eye as the other one stopped and gave a little wave, calling out to the both of them. He stood back up with an innocent, puzzled expression and cocked his head slightly to try and figure out their new company. Kaeli laughed softly at Alistair's quizzical face and bumped her head against the back of his, indicating that he should try and come back to reality and move forward.

”I'm Atlas. I can totally get you hooked up in that house over there if you need a place to crash, nobody else is using it.” The large Luxray padded his way forward slowly, still not sure if he should completely trust the stranger or not, but Kaeli encouraged him forward. He got closer, but still kept a healthy distance in case the polite behavior was some kind of trap, and gave a tentative smile. "So, Atlas, you're alive then? Yes?" The strange question caused Kaeli to laugh again. "I'm sure he is love," she wheezed. "And he's offering the house. Regardless of his intentions we need the rest so I say take him up on it. We can deal with the consequences later, if there are any."

Despite the pain she was in, and the extraordinarily long time it took her to speak, Alistair was still in awe of his mate's strength and determination. She was obviously a born leader and knew when and where to make a decision, something he had tried many times to live up to in comparison with her. His heart warmed at the thought of his mate's strength and grace, giving a small nod and nuzzling her gently. "Alright, alright. If you say so. As long as it isn't a creepy shack in the middle of the woods again homing a creepy old woman and her even creepier daughter I think we will be alright." More laughter.

Alistair smiled at Atlas and gave a small bow of his head as he introduced himself and his mate. "I'm Alistair, and this is the love of my life Kaeli. Uh, thanks, for having us I mean. I need a place where she can rest and we were heading for that little house when I spotted you on the fence. It's...Well it's nice of you to offer. We don't get that much anymore."

The Skarmory calls out to them.  ”I'm not looking for a fight!”

Tension immediately drains a bit from Sara-Anne's shoulders, but she waits for the metal bird to elaborate.

”Can I ask what you're doing here? Or who you are?”

"We're just travellers!  I'm Sara-Anne and this is Arlene and Charizard!  We have a wounded human man who really needs a proper roof over his head- he was in a bad crash!"  Should she be spilling this much?  Well, it's also not like she can lie.  If she'd said anything else and then gained admittance to the town, they'd see Mr. RPG Man was injured within seconds.  It's kind of super obvious.  "We were hoping for shelter, that's all!"

"We don't mean any harm!" adds Arlene.  "We don't want a fight any more than you do!"  At a nudge from her trainer, Arlene moves forward, closing the gap a little.  Because not shouting would be nice.  "I don't think we'd be in your hair very long, honestly.  The injured man seems to have someplace he's eager to return to.  He just needs time to re-cooperate."

"Please?"  She turns her big, brown eyes on the metal bird, hoping that the curse of looking like a high schooler will pull through for them once again.

”I'm not looking for a fight!” Galahad's fire eased a bit in his throat-- that was a good sign, at least. The metal bird drew closer until stopping only a small ways away. Too far for melee attacks, but not far enough for any details of her appearance to be skewed. She didn't look infected, which was another good sign. ”Can I ask what you're doing here? Or who you are?”

"We're just travelers! I'm Sara-Anne and this is Arlene and Charizard! We have a wounded human man who really needs a proper roof over his head- he was in a bad crash!" The trainer's tiny fairy voice took a bit of effort to reach over the natural howling of the wind. Still, it looked like her shouting had done the job. He wasn't entirely sure that he wanted Lance's injuries literally shouted from the skies, but there wasn't much else of a choice. And it also wasn't like they could hide it from any passerby; Lance still reeked of blood. "We were hoping for shelter, that's all!"

"We don't mean any harm!" the Altaria added. "We don't want a fight any more than you do!" Sara-Anne nudged the dragon further to close the gap. Shouting wasn't practical if they were trying to keep hordes from finding them. "I don't think we'd be in your hair very long, honestly. The injured man seems to have someplace he's eager to return to. He just needs time to re-cooperate."

"We're just travellers!  I'm Sara-Anne and this is Arlene and Charizard!  We have a wounded human man who really needs a proper roof over his head- he was in a bad crash!" Cassandra can't believe what she's hearing. Two humans? Seriously, what sort of odds are these? She wonders if this is a ruse, intending to earn her sympathy. Yet...if it is a lie, it's a poor one. Serious wounds aren't easy to fake, and it wouldn't take long for her or anyone else at Fallarbor to discover that this group didn't actually have an injured person with them. "We were hoping for shelter, that's all!"
"We don't mean any harm! We don't want a fight any more than you do!" Cassandra is still lingering in her doubts; even if these two are telling the truth, that's no reason to assume they don't have dubious intentions. As the Altaria approaches, Cassandra watches them with a careful eye, waiting for the slightest signs of aggression, but there are none. The worst part about this is how little leverage she has; if Cassandra tells them to leave, they could very well stop playing nice. While she and her friends are in no way weak, that Charizard...something in the Skarmory's gut tells her it's not a Pokemon to mess with. Best case scenario, the human and her Pokemon would read Cassandra's tension as simply an expected response to a complete group of strangers. "I don't think we'd be in your hair very long, honestly.  The injured man seems to have someplace he's eager to return to.  He just needs time to re-cooperate." Cassandra's unease loosens its grip by a few inches, but no doubt Chris wouldn't be happy to hear that. These would be the first humans he's seen in years.

"Please?" Now that she's closer, the human girl looks like she's nothing more than a teenager. Appearances can be deceiving, but it reminds Cassandra all too painfully of how young her own trainer had been at the start of this hell. Too young, and only desiring a place where they weren't in danger every second of the day...Arceus, is she really feeling sorry for someone she doesn't know?
"My comrades and I will earn our keep. All we need is a place for my trainer to recuperate."
Cassandra lets her mind chew on the words, careful not to take too much time responding. Right now, the best she can do is at least give them the benefit of the doubt, and hope she hadn't made a horrible mistake doing so. Not ideal, but a lot better than trying to get them to leave and pissing off the Fire-type. "Alright," the Skarmory says, keeping her tone reserved; the doubts jumping around in her mind have yet to clear. "I'll take you to my trainer, so he knows you're here. There's room enough in the town for your injured friend." Cassandra figures that, at this time of day, Chris would probably be back at the fenceline, but it's only a guess. Regardless, someone would be near the fenceline that could fetch him if he wasn't there. It goes against every instinct ingrained in her to lead strangers to the easternmost fence, but...well, she's already agreed to it. No turning back now.

    ~

Thank God, it looks like he's not about to get his face chewed off. Score one for Atlas. Take THAT, Astora. I can handle myself! The other Pokemon approaches him, and judging by that weird look on his face, Atlas knows his white flag has been most graciously accepted. "So, Atlas, you're alive then? Yes?" Whoa, they've barely met and already the dude's bringing out the existential questions. Atlas laughs at the awkwardness of the question; it's so much better hearing that over people being so serious all the time.
"Yeah, bro, I'm still kicking!" Atlas responds, nearly starting to bounce on his paws like he was a kid again. Not only has he met two new Pokemon, the first outsiders in who-knows-how-long, they also seem to be really nice. The Vaporeon looks everywhere but towards them as the two begin to talk, putting all his effort into not eavesdropping. Remember-eavesdropping is rude, and if there's one flaw Atlas isn't going to have pinned on himself, it's "being rude." Slacker, informal, overconfident, childlike, sure-but not rude, no way, that isn't him. Luckily for Atlas, it's not long before he deems it perfectly okay to look back, returning Big Guy's smile with an equally enthusiastic grin of his own. Boy, was he going to like having new people around for once.

"I'm Alistair, and this is the love of my life Kaeli. Uh, thanks, for having us I mean. I need a place where she can rest and we were heading for that little house when I spotted you on the fence. It's...Well it's nice of you to offer. We don't get that much anymore." Oho, lovebirds, huh? They have some pretty sweet names, though, ones that have a similar ring to "Stannis". Atlas nods, unsure of how to respond to the gratitude with words, or even begin addressing that last part. Serious may not have been in his vocabulary, but the Vaporeon isn't dumb. He knows perfectly well why they have never been offered a place to hang. Everyone who would do so is either dead or far away, and everyone else are just bags of dicks waiting to steal your stuff, kill you, or both. Depressing...which is why Atlas doesn't think about it. He's got the luxury not to, and why wouldn't he take advantage of it? That's waaay better than Depression City all day, every day.

"Nice to meet both of you, too," Atlas says, shaking off the negative thoughts with the graceful ease of a dog shaking water off its fur. "And it's no problem, dude. Lucky for you guys, we don't charge double for the couples retreat. In fact, it's completely free." With a not-so-subtle wink, the Vaporeon began to mention getting the fence open for them, but another thought hit him so abruptly that it completely morphed his words. It felt a lot like being slapped in the face, but Atlas was no stranger to his train of thoughts jumping off the track, and he didn't miss a beat. Good thing too, because stumbling over his words was always mega-embarrassing. "OH! I completely forgot-I'll have to tell my trainer you're here so he doesn't, like, completely freak out," the Vaporeon explained-admittedly, he really doesn't know where Chris is, as the guy was only near the west fence for a short while before heading back into town. "That's cool, right? I can totally help you get set up first, though. That house is for storage, but there's really not much in there."

(fyi: Chris IS there, but I didn't know if I should include him again just yet so I left it pretty open)

Both felines were relieved when Atlas proved to be a very friendly sort, even so far as to laugh at the absurdity of Alistair's question from before. It was a nice change of pace to finally meet someone who didn't look at them as either a mark or a food source. "Nice to meet both of you, too," the Vaporeon offered politely. "And it's no problem, dude. Lucky for you guys, we don't charge double for the couples retreat. In fact, it's completely free."

The Luxray couldn't help but break out into a wide grin at the playful banter and wink that followed the thinly veiled innuendo. Finally he had someone he could joke around with! Kaeli was amazing, but eventually her maturity caught up and outpaced his jokes and he often found himself ashamed of some of the things he said or did to try and get a laugh out of her. But this guy seemed like the sort he could really get along with.

"OH! I completely forgot-I'll have to tell my trainer you're here so he doesn't, like, completely freak out," Kaeli froze and Alistair went slack jawed as they stared in shock at the water fox. "Trainer? As in.... a human?"" Kaeli's voice was rough and very slow but she had to be sure she heard him right. The last time they ran into humans, the only time since the Epidemic, they had tried to eat the mated pair. It was not a pleasant interaction. "That's cool, right? I can totally help you get set up first, though. That house is for storage, but there's really not much in there."

The pair looked at one another closely before both turning back to Atlas with worry on their faces. "He wouldn't...uh...well he isn't violent, is he?" Alistair worded the question as carefully as he could, trying not to imply outright that the Vaporeon's trainer was going to take advantage of his mate's wounded state to try and satisfy his belly. "We wouldn't want to cause any trouble by being here."

”Alright.”  She sounds... not nervous, not angry, but controlled.

Controlled.  Doesn't she ever wish she had that ability, to pretend that she was confident and not afraid.

”I'll take you to my trainer, so he knows you're here. There's room enough in the town for your injured friend.”  Her face lights up with delight as she starts gushing gratitude everywhere.

"Oh, thank you!  Thank you very much!  We won't be any trouble, promise."  She'll be very good to their hosts.  Or at least, she'll try to.  She won't be rude at any rate.

Now hopefully she'll remember enough about how to socialize like a normal person to not come off as weird.  She doubts anyone would kick them out just becuse she can't remmeber how small talk works, but hey, remembering how will make things a lot less awkward.  And if they're going to be here a while, that'll help.  A lot.

    Oh.  Wait a moment.

"Charizard?  Do- do we leave the others to go with her, or do we take everyone else with us?"  If it does turn out to be a trap, taking Lance with them would be a bad idea...

”Alright.” Galahad let the fire die in this throat as it preceded a soft relieved sigh. It was definitely progress. ”I'll take you to my trainer, so he knows you're here. There's room enough in the town for your injured friend.” Though he was grateful for the wary hospitality, Sara-Anne was apparently just over the moon.

"Oh, thank you! Thank you very much! We won't be any trouble, promise." The Charizard turned to her and couldn't help but smile. Her enthusiasm and bright personality was certainly a precious commodity in these times, especially when his normal traveling partners were solemn at best. Still, he was simply glad that now Lance had a decent shot at recovering without a hitch.

"Charizard?" Being addressed directly caught him off guard as he'd mused, and his eyes snapped back to Saara-Anne. "Do- do we leave the others to go with her, or do we take everyone else with us?"

He thought a moment, then looked to the Skarmory. Would it be better to keep Dinadan and Lance closer or further? Would it be insulting to their future host to withhold from him when meeting him? "We should bring everyone. Let her trainer see what he's getting into before making a decision-- I know mine would want that. I also wouldn't want him to think we're trying to hide anything or be devious."

"Oh, thank you!  Thank you very much!  We won't be any trouble, promise." Cassandra is taken aback by the sudden wave of gratitude. The girl's demeanor seems genuine, almost innocent in a way...she hopes it's more than just a ruse. Maybe she'd be a little less cynical if it turned out there were more good people still left in this horrible world, and the Skarmory has no desire to see her trainer be hurt by liars. Before anything else can happen, though, Sara-Anne seems to remember something else. "Charizard?  Do- do we leave the others to go with her, or do we take everyone else with us?" Ah. It should not come as a surprise to Cassandra, that the girl would expect a trap when being offered shelter. After all, she still has her suspicions towards them as well; it's simply a logical reaction. Only the utterly naive would be devoid of any sort of doubt when dealing with complete strangers, especially ones inviting them to their home and offering hospitality. As unpleasant as it is to think about, people and Pokemon alike could be capable of great cruelty, especially when they believe they have something to gain from it.

"We should bring everyone. Let her trainer see what he's getting into before making a decision--I know mine would want that. I also wouldn't want him to think we're trying to hide anything or be devious." The Charizard's answer is not what Cassandra expects, but it is one she can respect regardless. She can't see Chris ever choosing to turn someone injured away from the relative safety and comfort of the town, but it is still a relief to hear someone be considerate towards his choices instead of attempting to simply barge in. Again, the Skarmory finds herself hoping these strangers turn out to be harmless and good to their word. Having more human company would no doubt be beneficial for her trainer, and they would keep his promise to Azelf fulfilled.

"I know he'll appreciate the honesty," Cassandra affirms, "Are we ready to go, then?"

    ~

Atlas nearly shrunk two sizes when the other two didn't react well to his mention of Chris. Did they not like humans? Would they attack him? Oh Arceus, this must be exactly why Astora doesn't trust him to be a diplomat. He doesn't need a giant imagination to know that some humans are real dicks, and his newest buddies must have had some bad run-ins. But they have nothing to fear from a giant softie like Chris, who wears sweaters and fawns over kittens! The only problem is whether they would actually believe him if he told them as much. Sheesh, situations like these aren't his forte-Atlas is chill, but not to the point where he can just wave a magic wand and get rid of people's fears. That's what Stannis is good at.

"He wouldn't...uh...well he isn't violent, is he? We wouldn't want to cause any trouble by being here." Atlas leaps back onto the fence, facing Alistair in order to answer his question. He really wants to mention getting the thing open for them, but at the same time, this isn't the sort of question he can tiptoe around. Gotta go straight to the point, assure them, make sure they don't try to shred his trainer into bite-sized pieces...that would be really bad. It's up to him to make sure this conflict ends before it can actually, you know, start.
"Definitely not," Atlas says, mustering up as much easygoing confidence as he can in the moment, "He's, like, as dangerous as a leaf. Only fights when it's to protect the town, or me, or one of my other pals. Since you guys didn't try ripping my face off, it'll be okay." The Vaporeon knows Chris too well to ever expect him to hurt this couple, especially since they've done nothing except be nice. No, there's no way; everything is going to turn out just fine, he knows that. "Both of you are gonna be safe here, I promise. Those humans out there? They're nothing like Chris. He's probably the nicest guy I've ever known."

    "Definitely not,"

Both Kaeli and Alistair breathed a shared sigh of relief, the larger Luxray turning his head to give a reassuring smile to his mate as Atlas described his human. "He's, like, as dangerous as a leaf. Only fights when it's to protect the town, or me, or one of my other pals. Since you guys didn't try ripping my face off, it'll be okay." Kaeli nodded and smiled at Atlas, too weak and sore to do much more.

"Thank you," she forced out slowly, her labored breathing concerning Alistair. "I'm sure he is a good man." He'd have to be with such a determined advocate. The Vaporeon seemed pleased that there was not going to be any threat to his master as he looks down at them from his post on the fence line. "Both of you are gonna be safe here, I promise. Those humans out there? They're nothing like Chris. He's probably the nicest guy I've ever known." She smiled again.

"I hate to be a pest," Alistair said sheepishly, "but her breathing is getting worse and it's starting to scare me. I'd really like a chance for her to lay down and rest if we could. If you let us in right quick you can go fetch your master and we'll introduce ourselves properly. We won't be able to go anywhere while Kaeli is like this so it's probably better to get that out of the way, right?"

”I know he'll appreciate the honesty. Are we ready to go, then?”

Honesty.  It's a terrifying thing nowadays.  It can get you killed in so many ways.

Withholding information can save your life and just as quickly end it.  And this time...

This time there is more than just any of her own to worry about.  This time there's an injured man who isn't even conscious to decide who he feels safe receiving aid from.  They have to do that for him.  They have to make sure they don't lead him straight to his death.

She has to make sure they don't lead him straight to his death.

And god, she'd better be making the right choice this time by being honest about what sort of shape Lance is in.

"Okay."  She punctuates the affirmative with a nod.  "Lead the way."

    "Okay. Lead the way."

Cassandra is all too relieved to finally have this tense introduction done and over with, but now she has the other problem lying before her. If she is wrong about this strangers, then she has brought danger upon not only her town, but also all of her closest friends, the only family still remaining to her. She could be either the catalyst of their end, or the herald of a new era in Fallarbor.

After all, even if they did not intend to stay long...these survivors, these humans, could very well change everything about their town. Was Cassandra ready for that to happen? Could anyone be ready? Even Chris, who'd been so desperate all these years to see another of his kind, or to receive some sort of news regarding his human family...how would this turnabout change him? He took that promise he made to Azelf so seriously. I cannot imagine him turning these people away.

None of the questions dwelling in her mind can be answered here and now. Cassandra knows that. She has to take a leap of faith, and pray the consequences are light.

"Follow me," she tells the others, following the usual path back to her perch upon the westernmost fence. This is where Chris would usually greet her, but she cannot spot the blonde-haired boy anywhere around her. Before Cassandra can address the others, asking them to wait here while she searches for him, the Skarmory spots a familiar yellow-and-blue shape rapidly approaching. The Manectric is at the fence-line in a matter of seconds, having obviously sprinted. Cassandra would have done the same thing, had their roles been reversed; the two had spoken before of their skepticism towards anybody ever venturing out to Fallarbor. Well, look where we are now.

"Astora," Cassandra says, half a call to the Electric-type herself and half giving the name to the people she has lead here. The other Pokemon's eyes are wide; it's the first time in who-knows-how-long that Cassandra has seen Astora genuinely stunned.

    "Cassandra-are they-?"

"Survivors? Yes. But right now, I need to see Chris," the Skarmory responds bluntly, "Can you bring him to us?" After a few seconds, Astora merely nods, no doubt at a loss for words. With the Manectric's exit, Cassandra gives an apologetic glance towards the human girl and the Pokemon with her. They have somebody with him who is injured, and no doubt this would be weighing upon them throughout this meeting of the two groups. If it wasn't for the good of both parties, Cassandra would have suggested that they simply go through the gate and meet Chris inside the town's boundaries. "I'm sorry. I expected him to have been close by."

Fortunately for everyone involved, it did not take long for Astora to return with Chris at her side, though to Cassandra each passing second felt like an agonizing hour. As her trainer came closer, the Skarmory could easily discern the astonishment that was practically painted on him. Like he's seeing things that aren't even there. But she knew exactly why. Chris may have been an optimist, but even he would be shocked to see another human being after four years. With his promise, the pressure and expectations would've increased exponentially. To finally see another survivor of his own species, two years after helping to establish Fallarbor? Cassandra cannot blame him. Her (likely overwhelmed) trainer places a hand near the latches of the gate, and there's a moment where the Skarmory can tell he has no idea what to do or say.

"Um-hi," Chris finally says, "I'm Chris. I'm kinda the one in charge of Fallarbor, and...um, well, you're the only ones to show up here in a long time." He runs a hand through the back of his hair, smiling sheepishly. Cassandra's seen him do the same thing countless times before, and it was always when meeting new people. She is also completely certain that after about fifteen minutes, he'd be past that initial shyness and nearly have a heart attack from excitement. "Can I, uh, ask what your names are?"

    ~

Atlas can't help but grin at Kaeli's acceptance. Boy, is he lucky for meeting such nice people! Honestly, he'd expected a lot worse-threats, accusations, a whole lot of paranoia, those sort of things. It might have been a reckless use of diplomacy, but it still worked anyways; he's starting to feel a teeny, tiny bit more confident in his ability to, you know...not screw up. Heh. By the end of today, everyone would see him as the one who lead the very first actual, tangible outsiders here. "I hate to be a pest," Alistair interrupts his internal monologue, causing Atlas to slightly cock his head to the side. What did the guy have to say? "But her breathing is getting worse and it's starting to scare me. I'd really like a chance for her to lay down and rest if we could. If you let us in right quick you can go fetch your master and we'll introduce ourselves properly. We won't be able to go anywhere while Kaeli is like this so it's probably better to get that out of the way, right?" It is then that the Vaporeon registers that the gate is still closed, blocking entry for his two guests. Man, how'd he forget so quickly?

"Oh, right! Sorry, dude," Atlas hastily undid the already-loosened latches of the gate, scowling as his paws repeatedly slipped around the metal. "Hastily" might have been his target, but these things were meant for people with hands and five fingers, and it made things much more difficult for him. Thank Arceus Chris trusted him enough to leave the gate not entirely locked up, or else he'd never be able to get the damn thing open. Humans were so weird, making things that wouldn't work well with four-legged critters like himself. It took a bit of a struggle, but Atlas finally got it to where the gate could simply be pushed open with no trouble at all. "There ya go. The door to the house shooould be ajar, so you can get in there no problem. Use whatever you guys need, alright? I'll close up the gate behind ya, so don't worry about it."

He gives an awkward smile, hoping the pair wouldn't find the fact that things were left slightly open for his convenience to be too weird...or, well, unsafe. Atlas always keeps a vigilant eye on things, as he is always quick to point out to Astora, but they don't exactly know him well at all yet. Not to mention, since he has to get Chris, he'd be leaving the fence unwatched and unguarded, which is definitely NOT a good thing. He'd need to ask Stannis or Ninten to take over his watch for a little bit. "Alrighty, I'll go see where Chris went off to. I'll be back real quick!"

(Let me know if I need to change anything! I made an assumption that they would meet at the west gate, but I can edit that. ;w; I also figured it was time for Chris to return.)

It took a bit of work but the Vaporeon was able to get the fence gate open and allowed the two felines access to his trainer's territory, much to their mutual relief. It seemed that most everything within the gate was easily accessible to quadrupedal pokemon which gave Kaeli the thought that Atlas was not the only handless one around this town. At least that was good news for Alistair, he hated when doors didn't open. "There ya go. The door to the house shooould be ajar, so you can get in there no problem. Use whatever you guys need, alright? I'll close up the gate behind ya, so don't worry about it."

"Thank you, really I mean it. This is perfect." Alistair smiled happily in return to the one he was given, following the water fox for a moment before he started to break off. Probably to get his trainer, or at least inform him of their presence. "Alrighty, I'll go see where Chris went off to. I'll be back real quick!" Alistair made sure to wave with his tail as their new companion ran off, trying to be as polite as possible without jostling the Rahneko on his back. "We'll be here! Thanks again!" Finally it seemed like things were looking up.
